Intense Solar Activity: The Sun’s Dynamic Display on November 4, 2024

On November 4, 2024, the Sun exhibited significant activity, featuring tall prominences and large active regions such as AR3872, AR3878, and AR3879. AR3878 and AR3879, located toward the centre of the Sun, have been particularly dynamic, producing multiple M-class solar flares in recent days and displaying significant magnetic complexity, contributing to the Sun's overall activity.

In these images, the active regions are clearly visible, showcasing intricate sunspot structures and associated prominences. Today's observations in the hydrogen alpha wavelength include several prominences along the solar limb, indicating areas where cooler plasma is suspended above the Sun's surface by magnetic fields.

The Sun is currently in its Solar Maximum phase, the peak of its 11-year cycle, characterized by increased sunspot numbers and heightened solar activity. This period leads to more frequent solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs), which can impact space weather and terrestrial technologies.
